The 3D Sleep project was originally conceived as a traditional physical production. The initial brief involved a multi-day shoot with four live-action characters representing a mix of patients and dental professionals to showcase 3D Sleep’s custom oral appliances.

Due to unforeseen circumstances that prevented the physical shoot from proceeding, the project was strategically pivoted into an AI Pilot Program. This shift transformed the initiative into a low-budget, high-value "test case" designed to investigate the future viability of Generative AI workflows for Modern Dental Pacific.

Strategic Objectives

Workflow R&D: To build and test a functional production pipeline using emerging AI tools.

Future Proofing: To assess the scalability of AI-generated content for larger, high-stakes brand projects.

Content Library: To create a baseline "marketing toolkit" for dentists to educate patients on sleep apnea, despite the lack of traditional film assets.

Cost Efficiency: Demonstrating how high-end educational content can be developed with minimal overhead.

The AI Production Pipeline

We developed a bespoke three-stage pipeline to move from concept to final video without traditional filming:

1. Character Architecture & Visual Identity

Development: Characters were first defined through detailed written profiles (covering persona, lifestyle, and clinical relevance).

Visual Continuity: These profiles were used to generate consistent visual character sheets using Nano Banana, establishing a clear look for the "3D Sleep Patients."

2. Hybrid Storyboarding & Technical Accuracy

The Challenge: AI often struggles with the high precision required for dental medical devices.

The Solution: We utilised a hybrid approach, blending AI-generated lifestyle environments with high-resolution stock photography of actual dental appliances.

Tools: This was achieved by integrating Google Whisk with Nano Banana and employing traditional Photoshop compositing to ensure the medical products remained clinically accurate within the AI scenes.

Key Learning & Future Viability

The primary output of this project was not just the video series itself, but the validated pipeline. By treating this as a learning project, we have underpinned the methodology for future work, proving that AI can successfully supplement or replace traditional shoots for educational and B2B content while maintaining brand integrity.
